Perhaps someone from a UK TOC should pay a visit to Nederlandse spoorwegen and see how it's done and enforced.

Believe it or not you don't often see many bikes on Dutch trains. But judging by the number of bikes parked outside stations you can guess that many that make the same journey have two bikes and simply use one at each end.

I am sure we had a thread on this recently. Greater Anglia sometimes show discretion by allowing dozens of bikes in their DVTs when events are on.

"Dutch Rail Company bans bikes" is not the headline Abellio are particularly looking for. So far they are happy to do what is possible to support these charitable bike rides, but if the events get too big in future that may need reconsideration.

Of course you could always 'Bike & Go'. Haven't seen any of those bikes used anywhere yet.

Indeed, but whilst they'll have a list for emergency disruption coaches, they won't have any appropriate contacts at control for trucks.

No advance on my 30 bikes per carriage then? :D

Any train going into a major city on a Friday or Saturday night will be full of 'bikes'! ;)

Or is that the wrong type of bike?

Some dutch stations have bike parks stretching into the 10s of thousands.

Same sort of model in Japan as the Netherlands - I've even seen a multi story bike bark (at Kurashiki).

8 on a 153, blocking the gangway, vestibule and inner part of the aisle.

Used to get plenty of bikes in the cages of the class 411/421 commuter services in the south east - it was quite popular for some to cycle to their local station and take their bike all the way to the office, not nearly so much now.

I've seen an Island line train with quite a few plus buggies, obviously not in the numbers above but this is a two car tube train!
