Just been decanted onto a coach off 17:27 Aberystwyth to Birmingham at Machynlleth issues with staff sickness at Sutton Bridge. Though no disruption showing for Marches Line.

The Cambrian is signalled from a box at Machynlleth nothing to do with the Marches Line.

Well only Shrewsbury - Aberystwyth trains are being cancelled. Shrewsbury - Cardiff still running. Have they switched out Sutton Bridge?

Sutton Bridge signal box can be switched out if no staff are available - but if that is done it only allows movements to and from the Marches, and not the Cambrian.

Thanks for confirming that.

One wonders why trains could not be run through to Welshpool with just a coach from there to Shrewsbury?

Presumably it was the ready availability of vehicles from P&O Lloyd coaches who occupy the former Crosville depot at Machynlleth which led to the bustitution from that location?

There are access problems for coaches at Welshpool which is why Newtown is generally used.

The rail replacement coach I was on stopped at Welshpool to set down and pick up, but was in the industrial estate at the easy side of the railway from the original station building. Could they not use the forecourt to the old station as is connected by bridge across the tracks and the by-pass? That would appear to make more sense.

Minor point but I don't believe there is any connection between P&O Lloyd (of Greenfield/ Holywell) and Lloyds Coaches of Machynlleth.

Sorry you are correct - I just saw Lloyd and presumed one and the same - obviously wrong! Having just checked the Lloyd's of Machynlleth web site I can confirm from the livery shown on their vehicles it was one of their vehicles operating the replacement.
