Most of the Thomas locos are real engines. Henry's a Black 5, James is a GWSR 260, Oliver a 14XX, Donald & Douglas CR 060's, Duck 57XX, Boco Cl 28, Diesel 08, Bear Hymek, Bill & Ben are on the Bodmin & Wensford, the NG engines are off the TR, except Duke who's one of the FR's England locos. Even in the "new" stories, there's Emily (Stirling Single), Murdoch (9F), Freddie (VoR), Rosie (Yankie Tank), Spencer (A4)....

...........Billy industrial tank and flora tram engine. I like flora cos she reminds me of the dublin and blessington tramway.:D

I always thought Henry was a Royal Scot (express engine, 4-6-0, taper boiler, went through a massive rebuild).

But in the first books he's got a wide firebox! Totally freelance, but looks more LNER than anything.

Just dug the books out, and he certainly looks like a 5 to me in the later ones, and he's very much a mixed traffic loco in the stories.

It must have been a really big rebuild. I sometimes wonder if there's anything left of the 'real' Henry.
