Nice collection, but there are two little discrepancies - not only are there just 5 platforms at Blackfriars, you've also numbered them in the incorrect order.

Bugger!

You're absolutely right - I've just checked my Quail. I was thinking of the announcements at the wrong bloody station!

Thanks for pointing that out.

Was it/would it ever possible to allow southern TOC to have trains running along to the old route from Holburn Vaiduct Low Level to Barbican as depicted here:

http://www.londonrailways.net/snowhill.htm

I read the old tunnel was infilled which would be a shame, but basically even if trains can no longer run from the north into Moorgate, why not allow southern trains to terminate there?

Even if the old tunnel has been infilled, you wouldn't need too much or a tunnel to create the new chord.

The left hand chord is basically the route of Thameslink just now, and the top one the Moorgate branch, the right hand one, I believe, has been lifted ages ago, but if it was down, you wouldn't be able as it is the tracks between Snow Hill Jct. and Moorgate that are being lifted later this year.

Yes, I was talking about the right hand one - Snow Hill Jnc to Barbican, South-West to North-East.

Obviously if there's no use for the tracks they'll be lifted - I guess my question was more couldn't they still have use if there was a usable tunnel between Snow Hill Jnc and Barbican going underneath Smithfiled market.

Wouldn't SouthEast Trains like to run into Moorgate? Seems like a waste of a perfectly good bit of track!

I believe the tunnel from Snow Hill to Barbican was demolished when Smithfield Market was rebuilt after World War II.

If it did still exist however, it would cause the same problem of reducing capacity on the core Thameslink route. Each train diverted to Moorgate would be one less at Farringdon and St Pancras - and the flat junction would mean even more reduction in line capacity.

Interesting about the tunnel being demolished.

Fair point about core capacity - branch lines can reduce capacity of the mainlines, something I believe a certain Dr B made! ;)
