Of all the signalling bods I speak to, not one has ever found anything written that says you cannot run at 140mph under normal signalling, it just seems to be the accepted case. I'd be interested to see the standards document that says you need in-cab signalling for it.

I dont think its a prescriptive requirement, its an evidential requirement, i.e. you have to be able to provide evidence of proven safe operation at the speed you want the service to operate and the parties involved feel they could prove a safety case of 135mph but they couldnt prove a safety case of 140mph.

The rumour that our butler used to go to the W H Smith store in Macclesfield to purchase my monthly copy of Modern Railways, in the barouche box, is a scurrilous rumour put around by young and envious rapscallions who do not have a paddock as part of their residences...:D
Hmmmm I thought that the paddock was the garden for the horse that resides in the stables and never before viewed it , the tennis court, cart house or chicken shed as part of the residence.
Silly old me :D.
Time for the hot cocoa I fear

Doesn't TASS count as in-cab signalling anyway, above 110mph?
It's not as though it's an IC225 set with no driver assistance.

The funny thing I discovered was 135mph was the max they originally settled on for the Acela routes , they had in cab speed limit displays but didnt increase the speed limit until they developed a addon that provided more fidelity of speed limits that could be sent to the train.
