I have a Nokia 6600i Slide, which is an OK piece of kit for what I want. I have Opera mini installed (v 5.1) to make it easier for Twitter and Facebook.
However, last night it's decided to play up and it's almost impossible to update a status or post a tweet
Apparently, my phone software is V 36.60 (07-12-09) RM-570 And I can't seem to update that either.
If anyone knows much about these, I'll give more exact details. Wasn't going to type it all out if no-one's going to answer :D

According to Nokias Service and repair site you already have the latest software version. Have you tried doing a re-set? As you have the latest version already the only thing I can advise is to perhaps try and re-install the software onto the device as some of the files may have been corrupted. I used to know of a code that would do it for you without having to connect it to a pc but it also erased everything on the phone. Having said that this was many years ago when I was working for Nokia in their Service Centres so the code may not work with the newer devices (I haven't used a Nokia in years).

If that doesn't work it may be a case of having to take it to a service centre for closer examination. It could be a hardware problem but it sounds unlikely. Actually do they even have service centres in the high street anymore? I don't remember seeing one for quite a while now.

Oh and before doing anything make sure you back-up your data!

Another thought. Is it just the browser that is acting up or is it other parts of the phones functionality? If it is just your browser you could try just re-installing the browser?

I've done a hard reset (battery and SIM out for an hour), restores it to factory settings and deleted the browser then downloaded it again and re-installed it. It seems to be something to do with Java.
Managed to get Snaptu, which is good for FB & Twitter, but not for general browsing.

In regards to firmware updating, It is my understanding that the phone must have a sim of the same network provider that the phone was originally sold with.

A eBay unlocked phone with say, a vodafone sim, will not allow firmware updating if it was once a T-mobile supplied phone - been there, done that.

There are workarounds ofcourse, but are a bit more complicated ;)
