Were any mk2a, b or c restaurant or buffet coaches ever built?

I know there were some air-condition mk2 buffets, but never recall seeing the earlier versions.

I guess the same question for sleeper cars too.

No Mark 2 buffet cars were built from scratch - all were conversions from standard carriages later in their life.

There were no mark 2 catering vehicles built new for service in Great Britain (A small number of mark 2D buffets were built for use in Ireland, however), due to the wealth of mark 1 kitchen and buffet vehicles available which were still relatively recently built at the time.

Around 1980, a few pressure ventilated mark 2C TSOs were converted to micro-buffet vehicles for use on the likes of West of England, Highland mainline and Transpennine services, and a small number of mark 2D micro-buffets were created for Edinburgh/Glasgow - Aberdeen push-pull services.

The mark 2F RMBs converted from First Opens for Crosscountry services came later, being converted in 1988/89 (and an additional batch in 1991).

Likewise, there were no mark 2 sleeper vehicles built; sleeper stock went directly from mark 1 to mark 3.

M500-7 for the Manchester Pullman?
That's a good point, the Manchester Pullman stock had completely slipped my mind. Inexcusable really, given that I've been served a bacon sarnie and a few pints from one of them in the past.

Vaguely remember some Mark 2 BSOs converted to BSO(T) as well.

That's correct - 9100-06 (or 07) of which one or two are still used on charters. The TSOT mentioned were 6500-29 and 6528 is still about with WCRC.

Let's not forget the Caledonian Sleeper lounge cars, converted from regular mk2 FOs by BR in the 1980s, buffet counter, kitchen the lot. I'd like to say that they're still going strong, but I'll just say that they're still going...
