We often hear tales of woe on this forum about how passengers have been treated following a a mislaid ticket or seat reservation so I thought I would relay my own experience from earlier today.
I've been on a day trip from Stevenage to Edinburgh today using my penultimate 1st Class East Coast Rewards ticket.
As we approached Edinburgh this morning I was sorting my tickets for the return journey when to my horror I noticed that the seat reservation for my return was missing. I know I definitely collected it from the TVM last weekend so I could only assume I I'd inadvertently left it at home.
I started to assume the worst and assumed I'd have to buy a new ticket to get back home, which would potentially cost over £100. Upon arrival I decided to try my luck at the travel centre. I explained the situation to the lady behind the counter and I must have passed the attitude test as to my surprise she said that's not a problem, looked up my ticket reference on her screen and gave me a handwritten seat reservation stamped with the official Travel Centre stamp.
Superb service from VTEC which demonstrates that problems can usually be solved if you approach them in the right way. I will write in to complement the member of staff.
I thought that the guard might have a problem with the handwritten reservation but he was fine about it too. He said they don't see many of them thesedays but in years gone by it was all they saw.
Well done VTEC!
