This question has been bugging me for ages but ive never really thought of asking people :-?
Out of the 61 Trams (That 44 are available for service) how many Metrolink trams are in service each day.
I imagine its less than 30 as befor the M5000 came along there was only 32 trams.
Also has anyone got pictures of the Special Purpose Vehicle away from Queen Road??
Hear are the current fleet details:
There are 45 trams able to used the current signalling system.
There are 26 original T68 trams (1001-1026) and a futher 6 T68-A for the Eccles extension (2001-2006). Total of 32 as you stated before the M5000's turned up.
As part of the Phase 3 and upgrades works 62 in total have been ordered.
3001-3012 were ordered to increase double trams Altrincham - Bury.
3013-3062 were ordered with the new TOS tram system.
3013 has been retrofitted with the older signalling due to 3001 & 3002 been seriously damaged by accidents. 2001 was a long term out of service as well. Basically what you see running around lately has actually been all available working trams some days. Not quite sure myself how many are needed for service tho.
Currently the new trams have been delivered upto 3029 giving a total 61 currently 'on the network'. Those the order basically means 1 tram every week or two (I forget which) is delivered, gets tested at night then goes to Old Trafford Depot to await the new signalling TOS system.
The SPV has been numbered 1027 now and there is pictures on the web somewhere.

Ive just been told their going to start trialling a Media City-Piccadilly shuttle 12 min freq from the 4th of April with the existing timetable adjusted to fit it in. Vey interesting as firstly it would be the start of proper Media City shuttle service and start using more trams (when live the shuttle would be Media City to Cornbrook) but this also allows them to test the paths for the new South Manchester-East Manchester lines in service.
It should be interesting too see how this goes as unless the TOS system is suddenly going to go live there aren't any extra trams above what I put before unless somehow they've worked out that with having 3013 in addition to the original plans means they can length the service from Cornbrook to Piccadilly.
