Metrolink tram failed mediacity

Tram 1021 failed at mediacity this afternoon - seemed the drivers could not get control from the 2nd cab when reversing at Mediacity.
Resulted in next Piccadilly shuttle using Platform 2, which seems fairly unusual given the rust on the rails.

Was the next tram a M5000? I would have thought if it was just a problem with being driven from the other end that they would have sent the next T68 to the same platform and then joined up the units.

Can they be driven from the rear cab? If so they could have turned it round on the triangle where the spur to Media city comes off the Eccles line.

At least platform 2 got some use.

That isn't what I suggested and is extremely unlikely.

Is there any reason why Media City UK was designed with two platforms?

Its a terminal and trams may wait there for upto 10 minutes or so and its very useful to have a siding so that you dont block trams in. Eccles isnt because of the space issues but all the other terminals have multiple platforms.

If the Metrolink lines come to a stand sometimes they use both platforms at the terminus' when it's up and running again. With the Altrincham line it's more common that they turn some trams around at Timperley in such circumstances but they do occasionally send two trams in to Altrincham in quick succession.

Yes, though the main reasons they usually terminate short at Timperley (besides being able to turn and catchup 10 minutes on the timings) are usually power issues on the next section due to Traffords notoriously unreliable domestic grid (Altrincham residents have more power cuts than I have hot dinners). And the operational constraints of double barriered crossings shared with NR and road users (so for example if they are bunched up they turn every second unit until the timings are restored to normal).
