Yes, I read about this earlier, and was undecided - in fact I think its very hard to make a judgement about the driver's response to that situation.

I think it would be innappropriate for people on here to post anything about the victim or the driver, and hope that people will refrain from doing so.
I'm sure all parties to this incident will be aware of the difference between an immediate reaction and a response which has the benefit of some time for reflection and discussion when its such a powerfully emotive incident.

All very regrettable; in addition to considering the passengers (whose story we read in the article) there's also the victim's friends and relations, and the professionals dealing with this that we could consider.

I think also, especially being a rail forum, we can give a lot of thought to the driver who has to live with this for the rest of his life. If anything it must be harder than for a train driver who can just put it into emergency and it's out of their hands. Whatever the outcome it's likely the end of his career as a coach driver.

I don't see how it could be the coach drivers fault.

He clearly thought he'd hit a pheasent or a fox or something, and stopping on the motorway is dangerous within itself. Clearly the examination of the coach at Preston showed damage consistent with hitting an animal, otherwise it would never have been allowed to carry on.

As an aside, Preston is losing all its Megabus work soon, all the vehicles will transfer to Manchester (Ashton) depot.
