On either 26th or 27th of March I need to travel from Mansfield Woodhouse to Lancaster. I need to return first thing in the morning on 1st of April

Currently the cheapest I can find is the following (using East Coast)

26th March
12:02 Mansfield Woodhouse to Lancaster (changing at Worksop, Sheffield, Picc, and Preston)

1st April
05:35 Lancaster to Mansfield Woodhouse (changing at Crewe, Derby, and Nottingham)

£10.00 for the outward leg
£29.50 for the return leg

Does anybody know if this can be bettered splitting, or going via different routes?

Thanks :)

I find that £10 fare for the outward journey very interesting and extremely good value.
The only cheaper option I can find for your return journey is a £12 Advance purchase from Lancaster to Sheffield and then an £8.40 Anytime Day Single (via Worksop only) from Sheffield to Mansfield Woodhouse.
Interestingly the cheaper via Worksop fares do not seem to be available via the East Coast Website.

I travel a couple of times a year from Hucknall to Blackpool North and I am finding cheap AP fares increasingly difficult to obtain on that route. I notice that the £10 fares are only available to Lancaster and not to Preston or Blackpool.
Up until about 3 years ago fares of about £9.50 each way were readily available but for the last 2 years it has been difficult to find anything cheaper than £15 each way. This year even £18.50 fares (usually via Leeds) are difficult to find and only £28.50 AP tickets are available which of course work out more expensive than the £55 Off Peak return.

Does anyone know any way of finding cheaper AP fares between Hucknall or Nottingham and Blackpool North. I've tried entering via Sheffield, Wakefield Westgate, Leeds, Crewe, Stoke on Trent, Derby and even Halifax and Dewsbury. All of these have worked for me in the past but don't any more!

The best I can now do is with AP fares is £10.50 each way between Sheffield and Blackpool North with Hucknall to Sheffield (Via Worksop) OPR £13.10

For walk on fares the cheapest is Hucknall to Sheffield (Via Worksop) OPR £13.10 and Sheffield to Blackpool North (Via Leeds) AR £31.10

I'm going again at the end of May and may seriously think about the £10 AP fare from Hucknall to Lancaster and then get the bus from Lancaster to Blackpool if I daren't risk breaking all the rules about cutting short AP journeys by getting off at Preston and getting a single to Blackpool from there!

The £10 fare is relatively awesome considering the mileage involved. Costs me £7.40 for a single from Lancaster to Preston!

I used to get an off peak return for about £44 last year which was obviously flexible, but I need to go back to Mansfield Woodhouse to get my car on the Friday :(

I normally buy tickets via Virgin Trains website but they are extortionate compared to East Coast for this journey for some reason?

Interestingly the cheaper via Worksop fares do not seem to be available via the East Coast Website.

It is a relatively new routing, introduced in January, I believe.

The booking engines operated by Chiltern, LM, Southern and Southeastern show the fares routed Worksop, while EC's does not, despite having the same 'back-end'. I would imagine new routes have to be added manually when they first show in the feed from the database, and EC have not noticed its existence yet- understandable, what it not being a core route to them (to say the least!)
