Had I been delayed on the tube I would still have claimed via Southern who would have then claimed from TfL? Or is that wishful thinking?
If you claim from the wrong TOC, they don't just pay up and then claim the money back from the TOC who actually delayed you. They should forward your claim onto the correct TOC, who will then process the claim in the same way as if you had sent it to them in the first place. But I am not sure that this applies for TfL tube services, as I doubt they have any way of knowing how much particular journeys may be delayed by tube disruption, and therefore whether or not a claim to TfL is appropriate.

It helps to claim from the correct TOC, as it can take quite awhile for your claim to be forwarded.

If the delay was on TfL no *delay repay* would be due. Delays on TfL are subject to a separate regime and they do not compensate for delays outwith their control. See: https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/refunds-and-replacements/tube-and-dlr-delays

The compensation is limited to the single PAYG fare for the journey.

Looks like Southern have comped rather generously here given the proximal cause of the delay wasn't them!
