London Underground (LU) is to axe up to 800 jobs under plans to make savings of £16m a year, the company has announced.

Tube officials said the cuts would include 100 managers, 450 ticket office posts and up to 200 other jobs.

What are they gonna get the apprentices to do now then? They've taken yet another job away from them. Yet continue to allow Direct recruits in and then when they fail send them to signal boxes or stations. It makes me sick.
I am lucky to be where I am in the business until my line comes for upgrade (in a long long time). Daniel, you have my best wishes....

My group aren't being offered SS / S/Op / T/Op at all, just SRT CSA - straight into job cuts, with no mention of what's happening with the SRT, which is basically just a load of over-number SA's.

I'm not looking forward to the next few months.

What have your management said? I dont know any of them now since SP went awry!

I don't think it's going to be clear if we're affected directly or not, as we're sort of on the line between Operational Learning and whatever the SRT come under!

Actually he backed down and took the pay rise the company proposed, even before that strike!

Don;t ry and blame the unions! I've just taken redundancy and we've had pay CUTS for the past four years!

Of course, it suits the ruling elite to blame the workers rather than their mismanagement of the economy!

LU unions agreed to a 0.5% (on top of Feb RPI) increase this year 2010.
I don't think that's 'generous' in the current economic climate.

These are very worrying times; there is talk at my depot of drivers being surplus to requirements after 2012 with a reduction in the rostered duties and pool.

I know it's been on the cards to reduce the pool for quite a while - I believe at one time the intention was to make 'super depots/drivers' with a driver, for example, trained on an S stock and who could drive anywhere on the H&C, Circ, Met, or District lines.
Since they now seem to be splitting things, (Coburg being split to Highgate/North Park, North Park getting split to there and Brixton, Neasden split to Harrow, etc), I doubt that's the case.

I suppose it depends which line your on, from a drivers perpective if you are at risk - I think most are looking at an increse in drivers, (as mentioned in the COO pages), due to the upgrades - for example, Wembley Park. Would you mind PMing me with which depot your at? (Don't mind if you'd rather not).

I've got the NVQ, I should officially leave the scheme on Monday.

And yes! 'Tis a waste in my eyes... but there we go..
