Evening all, having a discussion with someone earlier today made me think of the crew depots on LU (or LRT as was) and which ones existed before Company Plan in the early 1990s. I know this is a complex subject with depots that reopened in more recent times, but as a rough estimate would this list suit the timeframe through the 1980s?
Circle/Hammersmith/Met lines
Hammersmith
Baker Street
Barking
Neasden
Uxbridge
Rickmansworth
Bakerloo/Jubilee lines
Elephant & Castle
Baker Street
Neasden
Queens Park
Croxley Green (very early 80s)
Central line
West Ruislip
White City
Leytonstone
Loughton
Hainault (list as per today)
Victoria line
Seven Sisters
Northern line
Morden
Kennington
Euston
Golders Green
Edgware
East Finchley
High Barnet
Piccadilly line
Oakwood
Arnos Grove
Wood Green
Acton Town
Northfields
South Harrow
District line
Upminster
Barking
Earls Court
Parsons Green
Acton Town
East London line (then a division of Met)
New Cross
Would this be an accurate list for the time period, and are there any other notable examples of crew depots from earlier times which could be of interest? I have read the LURS article which states there was a crew depot at Newbury Park in the early days of the Central extensions, and read that Piccadilly line crews were at one point based out of Uxbridge.
It seems like so much from those times returned. Depot closures from the Company Plan ‘SuperDepot’ concept have been reinstated in more recent times, and the current crew depot total of 30 really doesn’t seem a million miles away from the list of 36 above. Maybe a bit of living history going on there! Any info or discussion would be warmly appreciated : )
