Hi all,
I need to travel from London to Lancaster on Fri 18 June, returning on Mon 21 June. Ideally i'd like to arrive around 4/5pm, and leave around 8/9/10/11 am.

Cheapest standard ticket I can find is £73.20 which I am surprised by as can usually find good deals on Virgin. Is this really the cheapest ticket? I went to Glasgow 1st class back in Feb for about the same amount!

I don't know what is going on - there seem to be very few reasonably priced advance fares for London to Wigan / Preston / Lancaster in the coming months.

There are fares that are £94 to Preston, but only £60 to Glasgow, on the same train.

Specifying via Manchester will add about an hour to the journey, but can bring it down to £36 return.

It all depends how much time you wish to be travelling for.

You can use LM to Crewe (£22-00 OPR or £8 each way advance singles)
and then use a Manchester - Lancaster SAV £17-00. (Valid via Crewe - but no break is allowed on outward journey "except to change trains" - as you would have to change at Crewe there would be no problem)
