So I'm investigating the cheapest ticket options between London and Guildford.

I have a z1-2 Oyster travelcard and a Network Railcard.

The specific journey times I'm looking at are leaving London on a Friday evening and returning on a Sunday evening or Monday morning but I'm likely to be making the trip fairly often in the next while so would like to get an overview of what's available.

So far this is what I've found:

Tickets from Clapham Junction to Guildford:

- It seems there are no return tickets available
- CLJ-GLD on a Friday evening - £8.40 Anytime Single
- GLD-CLJ on a Sunday evening - £5.55 Anytime Single (Network Railcard)
(Combined cost Friday-Sunday = £13.95)
- GLD-CLJ on a Monday morning - £8.40 Anytime Single
(Combined cost Friday-Monday = £16.80)

I take it the £5.55 Network Railcard fare only applies at the weekend when the £13 minimum rule doesn't apply

Travelling out on a Saturday instead of a Friday:
- A CLJ-GLD return is available - £7.00 Off-peak Return (Network Railcard)

Tickets from Waterloo to Guildford:

- It seems there is no WAT-GLD return available
- WAT-GLD on a Friday evening - £10.10 Anytime Single
- GLD-WAT on a Sunday evening - £6.65 Anytime Single (Network Railcard)
(Combined cost Friday-Sunday = £16.75)
- GLD-WAT on a Monday morning - £10.10 Anytime Single
(Combined cost Friday-Monday = £20.10)

Tickets to Farncombe (one stop further than Guidlford):

- A WAT-FNC return is available - £16.05 Off-peak Return (Network Railcard)
- This is valid post-peak on a Monday morning
There seems to be no CLJ-FNC return available.

I also tried from Imperial Wharf (last stop on the West London Line before CLJ):

- An IMW-GLD return is available - £15.80 Off-peak Return (Network Railcard)
- This is valid post-peak on a Monday morning

So in summary, the cheapest options seem to be:
Leaving Friday, returning Sunday: Two singles CLJ-GLD, total cost £13.95
Leaving Saturday, returning Sunday: CLJ-GLD Offpeak Return £7.00
Leaving Friday, returning Monday (mid-morning): IMW-GLD Offpeak Return £15.80

My questions are:
1. Can anyone suggest any cheaper options?
2. Are there fares from Zone 2 boundary to Guildford and if so is it any cheaper or do they have different conditions to the fares from Clapham Junction?
3. Can someone give me the full conditions on that IMW-GLD £15.80 Offpeak return (ie exactly when the offpeak hours start and finish)?
4. Similarly the full conditions on the CLJ-GLD £7.00 Offpeak Return?

I'd look it up myself if I could access the NFM on a mac...

Thanks!

No. This is an Off-Peak Day Return (CDR).

Oops, sorry, so it is. My mistake.

Yes. Boundary Zone 2 - Guildford fares are:
  • First Class Anytime Day Return (FDR) £27.20
  • First Class Off-Peak Day Return (FRX) £18.00 (Out: By any train except those timed to depart Mondays-Fridays before 0930 and trains departing London Terminals between 1600 - 1900 inclusive. Return: By any train except those timed to depart London Terminals between 1600 - 1900 inclusive.)

  • Standard Anytime Day Return (SDR) £16.00 (Network Railcard Sat-Sun £10.55; after 0959 Mon-Fri £13.00)
  • Standard Off-Peak Day Return (CDR) £10.60 (By any train except those timed to depart Mondays-Fridays before 0930.) (Network Railcard Sat-Sun £7.00)
  • Standard Anytime Day Single (SDS) £8.40 (Network Railcard Sat-Sun £5.55)

Thanks for those

These are 2 sets of fares Imperial Wharf - Guildford. The cheaper route Not London fares do not include an Off-Peak Return valid one month. The route + Any Permitted fares include:

And this. Looks like singles aren't priced so keenly on that route unfortunately.

So, revised cheapest options:
Leaving Friday, returning Sunday: Two singles CLJ-GLD, total cost £13.95
Leaving Saturday, returning Sunday: Two singles CLJ-GLD total cost £11.10
Leaving Friday, returning Monday (mid-morning): EPH-GLD Offpeak Return £15.30

Another option is buying a Megatrain ticket from London to Havant and stopping short. But am I right to think they wouldn't let me through the gates at Guildford with that?
