I think that's more of a 'statement of fact', rather than a negative easement. Someone could easily say "Any Permitted tickets are not valid via London unless they have the + symbol" but it's not quite true (although LUL barrier staff are told it is!).

Under the fares rule you are not allowed to pass through a station that has failed the fares rule. You are therefore unable to pass through London.

Ahh, yes good point. I was relying on the fact that the Gravesend to Herne Hill fares check passes, I forgot that additional rule.

That GRV to EPH fare is completely messed up, since the +ANY PERMITTED and +NOT VALID ON HS1 do not seem to allow anything more than the NOT LONDON fare.

edit: they must allow +NOT VALID ON HS1.

I think I may have found the perfect ticket, subject to my logic being correct.

Consider the ticket Gravesend - New Cross Gate. Both are Routeing Points so we can ignore the fares check. The only permitted route from Gravesend to New Cross Gate is LONDON (and map HK allows Gravesend to London via HS1), so on an Any Permitted ticket we can travel via St Pancras.

I don't have a copy of NFM07 but the National Rail site seems to state that a 7-day season ticket Gravesend - New Cross Gate is:
£71.10 Not Valid on HS1
£76.70 Any Permitted (if my interpretation of National Rail's wording is correct)

Gravesend - London Terminals Any Permitted is £83.50 for a 7-day season - is it me or is the Gravesend - New Cross Gate fare a bargain?

It seems to me that this is a simple error, given you'd normally get to City Thameslink from the south. They've simply forgotten to update things to take into account the fact you could now come there from the north.

If you pay for HS1 then it's pretty obvious that you could come from the north OR south, but more often than not from the north (given you've paid the extra), so the ticket should allow for this.

If you're stopped, it's surely not your problem that the ticket is deemed invalid. How else can you get from St Pancras to City Thameslink?

Clearly SET needs to update their systems, but you should not be given a PF and if you were then it should be a 100% open and shut case when it comes to the appeal (as in, you'd win).
