If Virgin operated a PF scheme (which they don't) you would NOT be eligible for a penalty fare. No TOC can charge penalty fares for being on restricted tickets.Sadly it seems Virgin trains are now using an Indian call centre. I got through to them and was told that no such easement exists, and if using my off peak ticket I would be liable to a penalty fare
My response to that would be to threaten them with arrest for breaching trading standards and spreading fraudulent false claims.and could be "arrested when I get to your destination"!!!
