Had both done as far as i could see

God, I was hoping they'd remove the horrible seating but I guess not. Whenever I use the Marston Vale I always pray for a 153 to turn up and not one of these abominations. One can only assume the layout was designed for midgets or amputees because the space between the seats is horrifically small.

You don’t get it every day then! Those of us that do would happily see the 153 replaced by another 150. It is so much better than the asthmatic grannyalike performance of the 153! You just need to work out the best seats to sit in. Don’t sit in the middle of the carriage ;)

Soviet design lives on...

not sure what you mean - the train is much better than before the overhaul, the seats are nice and comfortable, it is clean and it is much brighter.

I am not sure what some of you expected - it is a cheap and cheery internal refresh to make the environment a bit more pleasent for us passengers.

I am very happy with it

Managed to get a ride on the one of the refurbished sets this afternoon; I was thoroughly impressed. Again, as the new livery did, LM have made the train look newer than it really is and the interior was clean and bright. I also notice that the seats have been re-padded, which came as a pleasant surprise when I sat down. Well done LM!

I'm hoping to do one of the redone LM units next week - are they all done and in service now? Seats much more comfortable?

Sorry for the off-topic slightly but speaking of Northern's 150 refurbs I found this poster on one of their 'refurbished' 150s. The unit in the picture is, of course, clearly a 156. Even a regular passenger could compare that picture to the actual interior and clearly tell the difference. They even used different types of seat.

It also refers to units based in Merseyside and the North East being refurbished. Allerton only has 156s based there while Heaton has 142s and 156s based there.

To be quite honest, the most comfortable 3+2 seats I have ever sat on. :)

Not to mention of course that Northern have about 40 156s and the poster clearly states they only have 24.

IMO, the best sprinter refurbishments on the whole have been carried out by First Great Western with their 150/2s or the East Midlands Trains' 156s.

It has already been concluded on another thread (By your good self, jcollins) that the Northern "refurb" (although refresh would probably be more accurate) that is currently being advertised concerns only the former Northern Spirit class 156s (as the picture clearly shows). There's 24 of them, split between Allerton and Heaton depots these days.

The former First North Western 156s have already had replacement seat covers, new carpets and an internal repaint.

I understand the other 156s will additionally get lighting adjustments, something that the former Northern Spirit 142s are also set to get.
