Llangollen Railway- what's happening?

Last I heard was that the Llangollen Railway were extending to Corwen, but this was last year. Haven't heard anything since. Once they reach Corwen will they extend further West towards Barmouth?

Can they do a deal with Ifor Williams trailers to extend into the old station site and build a site for the trailer manufacturer elsewhere?

When are they extending to Ruabon?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated!

"The 2 ½ mile push to Corwen is now well under way.

The first sod was dug at Corwen in March 2011 by the Welsh Assembly Deputy Minister, Jocelyn Davies AM.

Since then, the Volunteers have finished clearing the line of vegetation, most of the fencing is up and the track now extends beyond the halfway point to Corwen.

The construction of the Railway from Carrog to Corwen Phase 1 including the temporary station has been estimated to cost £1.25 million and although some invaluable grant funding has been obtained from the Welsh Assembly Government, the Railway still needs to contribute heavily from its own fund raising activities.

Phase 2, the construction of a station complex at Corwen remains the longer term objective of the railway."

Basically they need more money for the extension than they currently have. Extending to Ruabon has been debated in another thread (http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=66629&highlight=Ruabon and somewhere else I can't remember) but there are now probably too many obstacles built in the way.

Was it this line that were also trying to extend towards Oswestry? or am I thinking of another line in that area?

The Cambrian Railway at Oswestry are trying to extend to Gobowen.

Track has been laid past the location of the former Bonwm Halt, and trains have been ran to a temporary stop board near this site on several gala days.

A press release regarding a change to the plan for the Corwen extension was issued late last year and can be viewed here.

In summary a temporary station will be built, with a run round loop a couple of hundred yards in the rear, ie the Carrog end of the station. This will allow locomotive hauled trains to run without the need to "top and tail".

I visited the place in October 2012, and drove along the road that runs alongside the enbankment, and they were approximately 1/2 way towards Corwen

No. Corwen is the end of the line as the route through the town is blocked.

No.

When are they extending to Ruabon?

Probably never, there are too many structures intruding into the formation and reinstating the bridge at Acrefair would be immensely expensive.
