Mods please move to correct area if required.

My Mum and Grandad are planning on traveling to Yate from Hereford in a few weeks, and have to change at Worcester Fgate st. My Grandad isn't as able as he used to be, and would therefore need to use the lift. The lifts have been out of order recently and I was just wondering if there was an alternative route i.e a barrow crossing or a goods lift. They have also thought about going via Newport (wales) instead, however since my grandad is unable to get between platforms quickly, then this way may not work.

No barrow crossing or goods lifts at Foregate Street that I can remember. (Both exist at Shrub Hill though.)

If you aim to get a GWR service to Hereford, then these will go from platform 1 at Shrub Hill which would be the same platform as you arrive on from Yate.

The barrow crossing at Foregate Street was taken up a while ago. The lifts are working at the moment but are a bit problematic. The goods lifts were where the passenger lifts are now.

GWR services from Shrub Hill to Hereford are infrequent, so you'd have to time it just right. The main service is the hourly (extras at rush hours) West Midlands service from Foregate Street.

You could avoid Worcester Foregate St by changing at Great Malvern and Worcester Shrub Hill, both being same platform changes.
It works on the 1540 Hereford-Birmingham, change at Great Malvern 1612 into 1632 Great Malvern-Paddington.
Then change at Worcester Shrub Hill P2 at 1653 into 1658 Worcester SH-Bristol train arr Yate 1806.
It also works at other times of day but with longer changes.

It's a pity the Worcester FS-Bristol trains no longer extend to Great Malvern.

Lifts at Foregate Street are working at present, I used the one on platform 2 this morning. They're small and cramped, particularly if you have luggage, but working at present! As others have said, best option is to get a GWR service from Worcester to Hereford as there would be no platform change needed.
