There should be some VCS singles available at £13 single in each direction if you look - if not, there are other tickets available up to the VAS level at £29 in each direction that will fix you to your train.

The SVR ticket is £80.10 being valid on any train.

There are plenty of £7 singles available for Leicester-London, and you can get a £22 single on the 08:35 or 10:35 from Paddington to Dawlish. Be sure to allow approx 1 hour to get from St Pancras to Paddington (it won't take more than 20 minutes but you need to allow plenty of time).

On the way back this is available for £13:-
Saturday 4 August 2007
Station Arr Dep Travel by Service Provider
DAWLISH 19:59 Train FIRST GREAT WESTERN
EXETER ST DAVIDS 20:19 20:37 Train FIRST GREAT WESTERN
BRISTOL TEMPLE MEADS 21:44 09:15 Train VIRGIN TRAINS
BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET 10:57 11:26 Train CENTRAL TRAINS
LEICESTER 12:19

So in all you can do a circular trip for £42.

Go to a station and don't use National Rail.co.uk as it doesn't touch NRES for discounts....

£80? Come on guys, you can do better than that!

The SVR ticket is £80.10 being valid on any train.
If he wants to go back on the same day,

LEI-BHM CDR 7.90
BHM-CNM CDR 15.00
CNM-BRI CDR 7.00
BRI-TAU CDR 9.30
TAU-DWL CDR 10.50
Total = 49.70 - this is a walk-on fare giving total flexibility for a day return, but note that the train must call at Cheltenham and Taunton for that to be valid (most - but not all - do).

To get a train that does NOT call at Taunton (such as the Manc-Newquay HST for example)...

LEI-BHM CDR 7.90
BHM-CNM CDR 15.00
CNM-BRI CDR 7.00
BRI-EXD CDR 20.00
EXD-DWL CDR 3.00
Total = 52.90

Why not get the 0805 Padd-Nqy You arrive at Dawlish 1101 vice 1121. The 0835 is also very prone to delays due to the B&H stops. Or else the 0905 etc.

If you get the 0835 you may as well buy AP to Dawlish as believe it is no extra charge.
