Leeds to York returning not on the same day

I think I've worked this out correctly but could I check with your expertise?

Leeds-->York returning not on the same day: there is no return ticket expect a day return so the cost is two singles £10.40 x 2 = £20.80

However Leeds-->Thirsk saver return (NOT day return) £ 17.50 is a better ticket for the same journey.

My questions

1) Is this logic correct
2) Will there be any problems on the way back getting on at York instead of Thirsk - is this travelling short and not permitted?
3) Where can I check what the restrictions of a Saver Return York->Thirsk are?


Also wondered about Dewsbury-->York saver return £14.40

Dewsbury, Hebden Bridge, New Pudsey, Shipley etc, etc... are all the same price at £14.40 and are the best ticket to get.

You can always break journey on the return portion of any walk-on ticket anyway.

You can always get in/out of barriers at Leeds anyway even if the ticket prohibited break of journey as the station facilities are on the unpaid side of the barrier.

Thank you. I think I'll go for Shipley - it would make me feel more comfortable/confident at the Leeds barrier since Shipley->York necessitates a change at Leeds.

The barriers at Leeds seem to accept break of journey - at least they did when I had one a few weeks back, so there shouldn't be any problems there! If they did reject it, then just show it to staff and they'll let you through!

The barriers were in use a few nights ago after 10pm and rejected a South Milford to York ticket, falsely claiming it was "not valid at this location", despite being perfectly valid as Micklefield to Leeds is covered by the Leeds Group and the only way to do the journey at night/evenings is via Leeds anyway as the Selby stoppers don't operate at certain times. Anyway I was let through "manually".

The Shipley-Yrk saver return is not valid for arrival at York before 09:30 on Mondays-Fridays. Return travel you can use any train, and break of journey is allowed in either direction.

The barriers at Leeds have always let me out of the platforms, but last week twice had problems getting back in using the same ticket - it was a passback error message that came up - I think they might have put in a timeout.
It was usually a quick visit to M&S in the station entrance, so was trying to re-enter the platforms about 10 minutes after coming out.
The staff have always let me back in.
At least the barriers recognise the tickets etc.
The barriers at my FCC station always reject the same advance tickets that are accepted at Leeds.

The barriers also wouldn't let me back on to the platforms and I too got some 'passback' message the other week - I was on the outward leg of a trip to Keighley (for the KWVR gala), and as I had about 15 minutes before the train was due, I popped out to WH Smiths. The barriers let me out with no problem but didn't like me going back on.

They are usually working when I pass through Leeds.

A problem has arisen now though. One of my friends has an annual Metrocard. The barriers have erased the printed details on it to the extent that a bus driver confiscated it the other day because it was illegible. I don't think I'd be very happy if it were mine!
