Laptop advice (for travelling)

Maybe, but I think the (other, older model) Dells I had always felt a little like the plastic would crack if I looked at them wrong (perhaps I should have said "design and build quality"). Whereas I think the budget Yorkie has could stretch to something more in the "Ultrabook" space, with the build quality to go with it.

It depends on the model. I've had a cheap plasticky Dell, but it was cheap. The XPS 15 has an aluminum case and feels more up market. I expect a Latitude will have a higher quality plastic case.

Looking at the specification for those, the screen brightness isn't great (250 nits), so it might be difficult to view in direct sunlight. Personally, I prefer to have a keyboard without a numeric keypad, so the enter and cursor keys are at the edge of the keyboard.

I will have to check what my work laptop is but my personal one is a Chromebook which I am very happy with. Everything I do is online so I find it ideal.

My previous Dell Latitude survived more than a few drops. Never had the issue with the hinges that I've seen on more than one HP.

The worst we see with the Dell's is the hinges can work a bit loose over time on the most heavily opened/closed devices. It isn't a huge task to pop the top off and tighten the screws again, though (and I know someone like @yorkie could do it)
