So, as the ladies decided to go to Blackburn shopping, and knowing how bad the Mall is, I decided that I was going to have a fairly rare bash.
I had a look at what Day Rovers were about based on what bits and pieces I've already done. I decided on the very reasonably priced £22.50 Lancashire Day Rover, as they covered four branch lines I hadn't covered, being Colne, Heysham, Blackpool South and Clitheroe.
So, a lift down to the station, via Tesco for a meal deal, to catch the 0939 (+1) from Accrington to Colne on 142043, which arrived at 1010 (-1), not enough time to go anywhere I mooched around in the fresh air avoiding the rain until the 1023 (RT) departed towards Preston, arriving at 1134 (+3). There was a slight bemusement at Nelson with the station boards showing three different names (Nelson, Nelson Station and Nelson Interchange)
I grabbed a Pumpkin brew and waited on platform 3 for the 1154 (+2) to Lancaster on VT 390152 arriving at 1210 (+3).
From there, I jumped on 150118 to Heysham Harbour/Port (depending on whether you look at the info screens or listen to the conductor), departing 1233 (+1) arriving 1301 (+1).
That branch is all a bit strange, going in to Morecambe, and doing a reverse on to the Heysham branch and at times going like a snail!
A couple of photos, a quick trip to the loo in the terminal, and back on same train leaving 1317 (RT) arriving 1346 (+2).
A quickish jump at Lancaster on the 1357 (RT) arriving Preston at 1412 (-2), VT 390046 being the train transporting me. Another Pumpkin topup to get the wife a free brew next time will get me in the good books.
The third branch, the Blackpool South one saw me take 142054 at 1433 (RT), arriving 1516 (RT). There isn't much space in the timetable as we're off again 1520 (RT) through to Blackburn at 1627 (+1). A Morrisons move - a very nice cheese salad, chocolate brownie and Oasis was welcoming! Another brew in the station shop to keep the caffeine levels up(!)
Departing Blackburn at 1659 (RT) on 150116, up the final branch to Clitheroe, arriving 1721 (-2) before having to walk about 400 yards just to change platform for the 1744 (RT) back to Blackburn at 1807 (+1).
The final train was a double 156472/142068 from Blackburn at 1820 (RT) arriving in Accrington at 1827 (RT).
A lift home, then pie, chips, peas and gravy for tea went down a treat!
4 new branches completed, 19 new stations visited and a thoroughly good day out!
Hopefully next time I'll see what I can tick off in Yorkshire!
