Come to the Bristol temple meads wh-Smith, you can pay £2 for a chocolate bar.(and the shop isn’t even within the barriers)

Not much at Bristol Temple Meads on a Sunday morn , WHS was only place open . Could do with a Sainsburys or something

Temple Meads has an M&S now. It's inside WH Smith. Only been there a couple of weeks.

Was thinking there should be one last time.

There are only 2 or 3 brands operating at the station, absolutely no variety.

Darlington is another , walked down to the Sainsburys .

It's also the reason you don't see a lot of Maccy D's in stations - at one time (though I think this may now have changed) they wouldn't allow franchisees to charge different prices, so with the extra costs it wouldn't be economic to have one in a station.

There is a small one in Paddington which is very nice

Everyone seems to be moaning about price differentials and I agree that many of them are ridiculously high.

However the retailer will see very little of the extra margin as most of it will go to the landlord.

Also don't forget that lots of the stores located next to railway owned land will have differential pricing too - Sainsbury's & Tesco charge higher prices in their Local/Express stores.

Also it seems ironic that people are calling for more M&S stores when they are also one of the worst for higher prices at stations, although most are operated under franchise by Select Service Partner I believe.

These days it's quite easy to use sat-nav to find either the nearest 24 hour supermarket (often surrounded by fast food places or having its own cafe) or a reasonable pub should you not want to pay the prices on the motorway.

If ever I am driving down the A1, I stop at Peterborough. About 2 miles from the official services there is a large out of town retail park where there's a Tesco, petrol station ,and a selection of food places. Much cheaper!

Same with the South West.
The Asda at Cribbs Causeway is much better, both food and petrol than any motorway service station.
