(Ireland) IE/Translink mileage required

Hi all,

One for the Irish cranks here. Later I *should* be off to Northern Ireland, Belfast in particular. Going cranking on a certain type of motive power tomorrow, which I must admit I've forgotten to check gen for, and whilst RailMiles has Dublin Connolly, Belfast Central, Larne Harbour and Larne Town (amongst others) as locations in the system, understandably enough there's no mileage in the system.

Anyone out there with the gen? Or where I might be able to find it? I won't see the replies until I get home on Wednesday though. Thought I'd ask in advance though for the gen

Oh, and it's only *should* as I have a funny feeling something's going to go wrong (I doubt, for example, the TM on 2B01 from here will be able to issue me with a return to Belfast on his machine! I also get the feeling that Bath will have absolutely no idea how to issue it either, or take so long to do it that I miss the trains I need to catch). Still, if all goes to plan then this should be a fantastic trip!

There is a Quail Track Diagrams book covering Ireland (no 6 in the series). It may be out of print, but you'll be able to pick up a second hand copy on Amazon Marketplace no bother.

Alternatively there is/was a book called Irish Railways Traction and Travel, published by Platform 5, that has all this sort of thing in it.

If you don't want to do either of these, just PM me when you get back with the specific distances you want and I'll supply them.

Last night co-incidentally I was looking at some times in the 1922 Bradshaws timetable for a couple of Irish boat-train services and noticed all the mileages in the Irish section. Not as precise as the Quail maps perhaps but useful as a guide if you need them.

Done Dublin to Belfast Central and Central to Botanic today, no doubt it's quite a bit from Dublin to Belfast!

Typing this on the Internet cafe PCs at Belfast International Youth Hostel. There's a massive amount of farces today and a huge story to tell, but I'd need several hours to type it all up at the moment! Time for sleep too soon, it's been a long time since I got up at 10:xx yesterday (with only about 15 minutes doss this morning)!

Cheers, shall enter that on RailMiles in a moment. Nice bit of Class 201 (IIRC) mileage there off 230! Whilst I remember to ask, are IE green and silver Intercity-liveried locos unusual on the Enterprise? Sure it was 213 on the 2010 to Dublin on Tuesday night, but foolishly I didn't get a photo!

Not got Coleraine to Dhu Varren and Dhu Varren to Coleraine in there though (went for a shack scratch on that move), as Dhu Varren isn't in RailMiles. I'm suspecting Belfast to Coleraine to be a lot, as I'm sure I saw a milepost saying 62.75 miles at Coleraine.

A full trip report for all 3 days of the marathon bash will be done later, going to take a while to get through what looks like 12 pages of notes! Photos, hopefully they'll be done this afternoon/evening. It'll become obvious in the trip report, but I must say this was an excellent trip which I'd do again today if I could. I've got to go back to work tomorrow though, so back to reality now.

If you got 213 on the Enterprise it would have been movement of the century as it is in storage! I'm sure you mean 231.
IC locos are not that unusual as 227,228 and 231 are 'adopted' members of the Enterprise class. 206-209 were the original four but HEP problems saw many failures on the service and other push/pull 201s became common. 230 and 233 were drafted in to join the original four but even with six locos this was still not enough. A few years ago TPWS regulations in NI meant for a period that only those six could go north of the border, but the continuing failures saw 227,228 and 231 modified for use on the Enterprise over a year ago. So the Enterprise fleet is 206,207,208,209, 227 (IC livery), 228 (IC) 230, 231(IC) and 233. It should be pointed out the locos can also appear on the Cork run.

Mileposts on the Derry line are from the old Belfast York Road station, which is where the depot is now, so you need to take care using these.

Quite possible. I didn't get a good look to be honest and was looking for the loco number as we arrived from Larne. Don't know why I didn't get a photo to be honest, then I'd be sure what it was.
