iPhone 3GS offer from Carphone Warehouse - Hidden catch?

Looking at this offer from the Carphone Warehouse:

Now, it says the phone is free with a payment of only £21.50 a month. I would jump at this in an instant, but something about this unsettles me slightly. If I go for this offer, I'm getting a free iPhone? Really?

Last time I was on a contract was for the Samsung Tocco Lite and I paid £100 for the phone then £20 per month for the contract, and the Tocco Lite is a far inferior phone to the 3GS.

Opinions? Thoughts? Comments?

I doubt it. Here's the iPhone 4. The only difference money-wise I can see here is the contract is £39 a month.

I reckon they're trying to clear stock. In the era of the Tocco 18 month contracts were common (perhaps even 12 months) whereas now the standard length is 24 months so they can get another six months out.

The iPhone 4 is out now and has been for a while, the iPhone 5 is rumoured to be coming out sooner rather than later

Alternatively of course Carphone Warehouse have realised the iphone X is utter smeg and want to get rid of them in favour of good phones

I might enquire in store, but I'd feel daft about going into a shop and asking if I have to pay anything for something that's listed as "free".

It's not. The iPhone 3GS 8gb is still on general sale, along with the 16gb and 32gb iPhone 4.

If you'd rather have a shorter contract life then o2 are charging £27 per month for a free phone and no contract.

It doesn't seem too unbelievable to me; I pay £24 per month on an 18 month contract for an iPhone 4 which I paid £100 shortly after it was released. Carphone Warehouse is a reputable company.
