The ”Through ticket“ is a fiction! It actually costs £3.80 (set before the £2 special) it’s called a 2-journey on their system, so I thought for a 20p saving I’d try it. My driver at Ryde struggled for at least 3 minutes to get it - but it came up at £4! So I declined on the basis that it didn’t offer any advantage.

At Newport, I visited the Bus Station Travel Office to be told it used to be £3.80, but increased to £4.00 before the capped fare arrived. Because of this, they don’t really sell but are retained as will become cheaper when the capped deal ends.

The following comes from Southern Vectis’ Newport enquiry office. The Needles Breezer is £10 with a reduction to £7.50 for NT members. However, this appears to be only for a round trip with no getting off the vehicle. If you want to get off the £15.00 Rover+Breezer is necessary: they do allow you to upgrade if you buy the cheaper ticket and change your mind, but the NT reduction only applies to the round-trip fare. The Island Coaster is also outside the standard £2 fare.

Frankly, you would be best buying a Rover+Breezer from the start at Ryde as it is going to be £8.00 to get from Ryde to Yarmouth and back. You have the flexibility and will almost certainly save a bit: at worst, even if you do the bare minimum, you wouldn’t lose more than a pound or two.

There were still one or two details that still hadn’t got into SV’s system, but I don’t think they would materially change anything.

Just to point out three things:

- The FastCat and the hovercraft are both likely to be fully booked on Easter Monday afternoon and evening.

- If the weather is bad the Needles Breezer may not go all the way to the Battery.

- The Rover+Breezer is 50p. cheaper if bought on the app.

Bit late to the party here, but (from Good Friday) the Island Coaster is well worth it (and covers the Needles as well as the relatively empty SW coast); if I read the Vectis site correctly, it's a normal-fare route (which I am slightly surprised by).

The Coaster is a good trip, but it only goes to Alum Bay (Needles Pleasure Park). The only bus that takes you on the exciting ride out to the Needles Battery and Coastguard Station is the Breezer.

Years ago, Southern Vectis used to offer a Rover ticket that used to also include Island Line services.

I can recall once purchasing this when on holiday on the IoW.

Whatever happened to this?

It would make sense to have some kind of integrated Island Ranger and Rover tickets, for use on both buses and trains.

Long gone. You don’t expect sense and cooperation between different companies, do you?

The Coaster is a good trip, but it only goes to Alum Bay (Needles Pleasure Park). The only bus that takes you on the exciting ride out to the Needles Battery and Coastguard Station is the Breezer.

This is not to say you won’t see The Needles unless you take Breezer (as was hinted to me at Newport). There is an excellent road/path that allows an 30min walk along the headland to reach the NT Coastguard Cottages and the viewpoint itself. Actually, I‘d recommend this instead of trying to get a bus the whole way!

Long gone. You don’t expect sense and cooperation between different companies, do you?

On an enclosed Island network it isn't unreasonable.

However, I expect there was some bust up over revenue allocation that ended it.
