(I've posted this elsewhere, but didn't get replies at the time)

What would be the best ticket combination for the following for tomorrow (a Saturday), with a 16-25 railcard?

Glasgow Queen Street to Science Centre (I'm willing to walk the ~20 minutes from the nearest subway station rather than getting a bus)
901 ClydeFlyer Greenock to Bogston
Bogston to Gourock
901 ClydeFlyer Gourock to Wemyss Bay
Wemyss Bay to Glasgow Central
Central Glasgow to Partick return

I've come up with
McGill's Inverclyde Day Saver (£6.20)
Bogston – Gourock anytime day single (£2.65. The return price being exactly the same as the single according to Brfares.com is something I'm just mentioning as interesting)
Wemyss Bay – Bishopton anytime day single (£4.85)
Strathclyde Roundabout (£7.70)
Total: £21.40

Unless I am missing something, that's 2 bus journeys which would be cheaper as 2 £2 singles.

A few years ago the right answer here would have been a Strathclyde Day Tripper ticket - I still mourn their demise.

I think you may be a very rare case where a ZoneCard day ticket might be good value, if you can be bothered with the faff of obtaining one!

All of your travel should be covered by a zone 2 & 6 ticket - it also includes zone 1 - which is £14.

Assuming you don't already have a compatible ITSO card (ScotRail, SPT Subway, McGills, Stagecoach or an NEC), then you can buy an anonymous Subway smartcard from any of their ticket offices (eg Buchanan Street) for £5.

However, they can't also sell you the ZoneCard ticket, because that would be too sensible. You can do this on their website or app, and load it on to the card from the app; or buy it at a PayZone outlet, the nearest being the Post Office on West Nile Street.

Info culled from the ZoneCard website and the Subway Smartcard website.

Thank you.

I had a point where I tried to get all of the TOC smartcards on the off-chance more would introduce PAYG, so I have a ScotRail one. I can't check its status due to ScotRail website issues, but I (presume I) could try the app and loading a ZoneCard day ticket anyway.

That's worked, thank you.
