I was talking to a chap last night who mentioned Inter-Depot sport, namely depots playing each other at Football.
He then explained that there is a yearly contest in Blackpool, where depots enter teams in various sports. Held in the middle of the year, the sports range from Football and Cricket, to Darts and Pool. He did say that there are details on Connect, but i didn't get a chance to follow this up.
Has anybody else heard of this?
Sadly inter-depot and inter-department sport has been lacking in recent years. Anything that was organised was made up staff from within a depot, especially drinking contests in the bar afterwards

Yep, the Rail Games is an annual event. I've never partaken but it's pretty well attended.
In my younger days, Clapham Junction S&T used to play cricket matches against Ashford and also the CJ signallers.

I've played in that a couple of times. There's loads of sports involved, from running to chess. as far as football is concerned, if you're good enough to get through to the second day you've half a chance if you don't enjoy yourself too much the night before!

There are still golf and fishing tournaments that I'm aware of, and I'm sure that at least a few depots still have an active football team.

The problem is that with the fragmentation of the industry at privatisation the communication has not always been there to make arranging inter-department or inter-depot sports events possible. It still goes on, but it seems to be pretty low key.
