Incomplete trip

Travelling to Waterloo today return and bought a ticket from Cheam (no barriers). Got to Waterloo and realised it wasn’t a QR ticket and needed to collect. So I tried tapping out at Waterloo which failed so spoke to someone who let me out at the gates. On the return trip I collected the original ticket from machine. But obviously going to be charged the incomplete train fare. I believe it’s gone up now, do I have grounds to dispute as I did buy a full ticket or am I going to have to suck up the additional fine?

Is anything actually showing on your TfL account? Your touch out failed so it makes me wonder.

Yeah annoyingly it is showing as incomplete despite not opening…

Will the system let you complete the journey with the missing touch in?

The other option is that you call the TfL helpline and explain you purchased a paper ticket for the journey and see if they will refund the additional charge on this occasion.
