That was a speculative proposal by the consultants, and not commissioned by ‘the railway’.

It was also somewhat smaller than the long term work that was being done.

Wouldn't a better approach be to just use the air rights of the depot space to raise finance for any rebuild, rather than actually moving out? Given the size of the site, it is interesting that the value of the land hasn't ever been used to pay for a rebuild of the station, although I appreciate that developing the space above the platforms somewhat constrains what could then be done in the future.

I’m no engineer, but I’m guessing that a decent height overhead development will need some chunky support columns that would mean displacing the sidings (to where?)
And I assume you can’t have fast stoppers without getting rid of the entrance point work??

The proposal is interesting, but it doesn't seem to discuss improvements to the rail aspects, just passenger interchange. It seems to be mostly limited to the same area as before, so I'm not sure how they propose to ease the curves or add more platforms. Perhaps flange squeal does not travel upwards!
