Oh well, some ideas don't fly!Cost: that of shifting maintenance (whcih will be a lot to renegotiate the Hitschi contract), driver training, etc.
Benefit: very very negative.
Therefore a negative BCR.

Unlikely that LNER will be progressing an order for more trains then?1) LNER costs are much higher now than Pre Covid.
2) There’s essentially 2 parts of the LNER operation that make money: London - Edinburgh and London - Leeds. Some big savings to be had elsewhere. Not very popular, obviously.
Perhaps the best solution for LNER to rid itself of the Mk4s will be diversion of the 807s that Avanti won't have the resources to operate (although that in itself still represents extra costs into the LNER operation relative to reshuffling things to concentrate on core routes with its existing 80x stock which by far is the best solution purely from a cost point of view).Unlikely that LNER will be progressing an order for more trains then?

Would this solution involve running less trains in total?I’d say the ‘best‘ solution is rather more dramatic than that, although that does depend how you define ‘best’.

The recent Harrogate extensions require an 9/10 car set (though a number are just 5 car at present) and are away from the main ECML for 2 hours at a time.Would this solution involve running less trains in total?
