IET Dynamic Braking on diesel

Currently on 802019 going up the Golden Valley Line (diesel line) and the motors are audible when coming into stations. Is this an 802-only thing, a fault with this unit or something new? Not had it on any 800 unit all week or on any 802 that I can remember.

802s have dynamic braking in diesel and electric, 800s in electric only. It's because it was always envisaged that 802s would spend more time on unelectrified lines, therefore they have bigger brake rheostats, so can use dynamic braking in diesel mode, saving wear on brake pads etc.
