I have just heard that the 70 ICE T sets are apparently to be withdrawn in favour of the new stock as DB and ÖBB aren’t happy with their reliability and will apparently be replaced by the Talgos?

I don’t have a source, it’s just what I’ve heard, so don’t take this thread as me telling you this information, it is instead me asking if there is any truth in it?

I’ll personally be very disappointed if so.

I think I read something about this. I'll try dig out a formal link. I thought some of the ICE4s were earmarked for em. It won't be be soon I don't think as the older IC and ICE stock will be first I believe.

I'll try dig out link.

the oldest units are already 25 years old, but there are no plans to withdraw the 411/415s so fare. The interior is getting modernized with new grey seats and it is planed, to run them well beyond 2030...

Aren't they the backbone of the Frankfurt-Vienna service, because of the tilt capability?
Best trains on the network, if you ask me.
It's like saying Pendolinos are for the scrap heap in the UK, because of the trend against tilt, forgetting they are the backbone of service out of Euston.

The recently ordered additional Talgo ICE-L sets will work the Vienna routes.

But will they match the ICE-T journey times?
Do they tilt (not obvious from the PR)?
And can you view the line ahead over the driver's shoulder? ;)
They have passive tilt, obviously not as good as active tilt but better than nothing.
Definitely no view over the driver’s shoulder as they’ll be loco hauled ;)

They're push-pull, so theoretically there could be a view when the driving trailer is at the front but I wouldn't count on it.

As has been said by others: the map published by DB when they ordered the second ICE-L series much resembles the current ICE-T usage… so it seems they will be its replacement. However, it will still be a long time before they are all delivered.

There's also an assumption being made that they'll work properly. The locos, in particularly, seem to be a big risk.

Other than Vienna, which routes are ICE-T typically used on? I'm pretty sure I've had one between Hannover and Hamburg before
Here are the scheduled runs for the 411s: https://www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/razeni.php?rok=2023&vuz=DB+411.5+Bpmzf+g&najit=Hledat&v=p

And here they are for the 415s: https://www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/razeni.php?rok=2023&vuz=DB+415.5+Bpmzf*&najit=Hledat&v=p

Edit - should have elaborated on the links a little. Yes, they run to Hamburg and Hannover. I've had one to Ostseebad Binz, too. In a nutshell, quite a few cross-country runs.

Note that 5-car is largely considered too short for cross-country long distance services in Germany: most of the 415s I've seen have been paired with a 411 as a 12-car rake. DfT please copy...

Should have thought to look on there - thanks!

ICE D are the youngest being scrapped.
I can confirm that the ICE T is getting unreliable. Not as bad as the multi voltage units for NL and Belgian services but traction motor failure is not uncommon.
