Hypothetical Delay Repay scanerio

When I was at Altrincham Interchange a little earlier the later 17:09 Manchester to Chester was showing as having been cancelled. However, it appears an alteration was made and that service was reinstated with the 17:58 Stockport to Chester being cancelled instead.

I didn't intend to travel on either of these services but I was wondering what would happen (in terms of Delay Repay) if you had turned up at the station for the first train, saw it as being cancelled so decided to go away and come back for the second train.

i think you'd be expected to wait until 1709 rather than leave the station at 1656 for example.

With Altrincham there's an adjoining bus station with a screen showing train departures there, so in theory someone could alight a bus service, see the screen and think the next train is cancelled and go across the road to the pub for a bit instead of heading for the train platform.

Technically, you would have been expected to wait for the 17:09. But given the circumstances, It might have been worth still writing in and being honest about what happened (You could have still got something), or simply just say you planned to travel on the 17:58.
