Hull Trains 1st Class Breakfast.

This has probably been discussed before somewhere but anyway.
Have travelled on HTs out of London in the past but today was the first time I'd tried 1st class into London. I thought I'd give the sausage in a roll a go.
This consisted of a dry bap with two very poor quality sausages cut in half. The sausages looked like the type you get if you choose the "300 sausages for £1" sort of offer at some supermarkets. Obviously a bit of butter on the roll was an expense to far for HTs.
Most disappointed.

The only meal I've had recently is the chickpea Jalfrezi. It's microwaved so the quality is good but not great. The two naan have shrunk since last time. I've never had a breakfast offering from them. I like their catering because it's fairly consistent. Unfortunately it does slightly lack the little things, e.g. I'm never offered a cold drink, there's no complimentary alcohol and if you're not having a main I'm never offered snacks. Maybe their catering can improve a bit with their new trains.

I'm lead to believe that it was better when they had the 222s as those had proper kitchens rather than the little galley area they have now. So hopefully when they get their AT300s they'll come with a proper kitchen again.

No indeed not!

VT's 221s are very limited on kitchen facilities but their crew manage to produce some very good quality food indeed. Admittedly it's not many services where they run such a good menu but the results are impressive.

The foodservice approach (where food is basically precooked but reheated using a number of methods) means you can produce good quality food easily in a small space using limited facilities. For instance as most components of an English breakfast aren't crunchy, you can reheat one in a microwave without it being unpleasant. Using a convection microwave potentially makes it even better.

It's how most pubs produce vaguely decent food so quickly.

Given Hull Trains aren't here to defend themselves I thought it might be worth posting their Breakfast Menu:

Crusty hot bacon or sausage baguette served with a choice of sauces
All butter croissant, served with strawberry jam and butter (V)
Delicious hot porridge served with honey to sweeten (V)
Fresh fruit salad (V) (G)
A selection of Kellogg's cereals served with fresh milk
Breakfast is served until 10:30 AM
Weekend Menu
A selection of fresh, locally made sandwiches on specialist breads
Meat - including chicken salad and BLT
Or
A vegetarian option including egg and cheese

It certainly doesn't sound bad.

Operate over same route
One much nicer than other
More than 1 hour on a DMU = Mega endurance
More than 1 hour on a loco = excellence
Tram, milkfloat or inadequlante?
Easy choice!

The selection on the menu (rather than the quality) might be better if you could choose more than just one item.
