Apparently only six miles apart but it seemed a rather long journey by rail back in the day. Anybody know the location of a timetable for the old Homfirth branch?

There is a later one from 1947 online at Timetable World. Table 189 in the LMS one from 1947 if the link does not work.

The intermediate station on the branch line at Thongsbridge was situated in a deep cutting from what I remember reading about it many years ago.

Aye, Thongsbridge viaduct- Several of the arches still stand but sadly not all of them. Anyone who's spent an hour making very little progress along the A616 on a fume-filled Olympian will curse the loss of said bridge. If it had survived to today I'm sure there'd be a strong case for re-opening the line. Oh well...
I seem to remember some time ago an announcement of a minibus linking Holmfirth with trains at either Brockholes or Shepley. Do you know if that service still operates?
I notice the "Holmfirth Connection" from Huddersfield Railway station to Holmfirth/Holme/Hepworth has been lost in the latest round of service alterations, and those services now serve only the Bus Station.
As you say, it's a pity the line was closed, as I agree it would be well-used not only by shoppers and commuters into Huddersfield and beyond, but also by the many visitors who now flock to Holmfirth making their pilgrimage to the "Last of the Summer Wine" country. However, even if Thongsbridge viaduct could be reinstated, I suspect the single-tracking between Springwood Junction and Brockholes and the constraints in Huddersfield station following its remodelling would make the provision of a frequent service difficult.

The Holmfirth Connection was really just a PR stunt not too long after the TPE franchise had started. First Halifax had just received some brand new double deckers (54 reg) and cascaded some R reg double deckers to Huddersfield, which were much newer than some of the buses that had previously been running in Huddersfield. First Huddersfield branded some of these cascaded double deckers as 'Holmfirth Connection' buses and put them on Holmfirth services which had previously been single decker services.
Yes - strange that - but the timetables are dated 28th October 2012, and perhaps Metro is being rather tardy in taking them off their website.
But I do remember reading in the "Changing Times" booklet for the last weekend in April [which now also seems to be off the website] that the experiment of running to and from the Railway station was to end [part of the Holme Valley Bus Review].
Up until those alterations at the end of April, every service used to run to and from the Railway station. However, I agree with you they were somewhat of a gimmick, and on the couple of occasions I used them during the day, I had the bus to myself from the Railway to the Bus Stations, and the driver seemed surprised there was someone actually waiting at the Railway Station stop! I can imagine too, they were not a big help with time-keeping, using a circuitous route through Huddersfield traffic!
Perhaps they were better-used during the rush hours.
