I hope you have somewhere to store it undercover, from my experience over the years of similar projects, even preserving 2 and 3 car units, they usually finish up rotting outside somewhere and end up as a cab only

What's that?
It's the Mirrless Blackstone power unit that was experimentally fitted to four power cars, 43167 - 170, by BR between 1987 and 1996. It wasn't considered a success (Apologies for the duplication - for some reason the comment by 43096 above wasn't showing up when I posted this).
XC - someone loves XC! If ever a company wanted wrapping up and sending back to Belgium its Bombardier who visited those awful things on us and DB/Arriva who don't seem to realise that passengers like seats and room for luggage too!

A beeter reason to drive does not exist!
If you're referring to the comment by TT-ORN-NRN, then I believe that they were expressing a preference for Virgin Trains (They usually do ;)), not Arriva XC. Though given that it was the former that foisted those dratted Voyagers upon us, and had reduced their legacy fleets to frequently woeful condition prior to withdrawal then I can't unequivocally sing their praises, either.

What is the likelihood of somewhere like the NYMR buying a shortened set when they’re eventually disposed of, to operate off-peak diesel services through to Whitby? Somewhere near 0%?
Its a bit pointless as it would only be idling with little noise from it especially if it was an MTU power car, fair enough if it was the Keighley and Worth valley it may make some noise. But they really belong on the main line doing at least 100mph.

I’m a little confused by what you mean - why Keighley would be more suitable? I was thinking of the NYMR as a long line with a steep climb and services that run partly on the national network - on some days having one diagram operated by a classic high speed train (albeit at low speed) in comfortable air con’d carriages may be attractive to some visitors and offer lower running costs for the line than, say, a heritage diesel with a rake of mk1s.

Not sure sure what you mean about the noise too but I do agree they’re best at speed on the mainline!
