FGW feel cold presumably as they have very cool temperature lights. Wagn fitted the 317s with these and FCC have now changed back to warm temperature lights.

Personally, I like the 'cool' effect (same on my monitors) but clearly most like a yellow, warm, touch.

At least the HSTs on FGW aren't as bright as they were - with every other light turned off. Meanwhile the EC HSTs have LED lights that are probably too dark, and extremely cold temperature. Very old generation lights, given Philips now do decent, bright, warm lamps to go in the existing fittings.

see, fgw have every other one on, because they are dimmed, and the train managers do that, because they are way to bright, literally ive seen people wearing sunglasses!
n i like warm, cosyness, n in my opinion, the perfect carriage is a dark one,
especially for night traveling :) better than just seeing a reflection of yourself for hours? lol

Couldn't agree more; flourescent lights look cold and god they're depressing if you're travelling at night. There's something clinical and unwelcome. it's not a nice experience travelling by train at night with the ambience so harsh.

i've not yet had the pleasure on traveling on a refurbished xc hst, i did see one at New Street on Saturday whilst on the Rother Don tour.
they do look pretty smart from what i've seen and the referb makes the hst look new again, i just wish that the Bournemouth services where hst's again as i use it ever day.. and have to travel on a god awful pile of ****e voyager.. The FGW hst referb is roomy for legs, but def has the claustrophobic feel, even when you do get a table, you feel like your virtually on top of the person opposite , and the lights are very bright in the coaches as well as the tinted almost mirrored glass not giving the best of the large windows...

(here's hoping that when we get the replacement hst, its based roughly on the original, leg room, large windows, comfort, passenger friendly)

Lighting that adjusts to the ambient conditions would be ideal. When I was on a brand new Airbus recently, it was great to see how they can smoothly fade the lights up and down. Trains should do that too, at least for Intercity trains.

Perhaps a normal suburban DOO train you need bright lights, to give a feeling of security and help the CCTV!

having been involved in the refurb of the xc hsts im sure they put a seat in either the luggage stack or toilet on each car this helped to increase the seat numbers, this is definatly so on the tcc vehicles in the standard class area

Correct, 1 toilet per coach as oppose to 2.
