Can't believe I didn't think of this sooner, but with how those opposed to HS2 bring up cost, I recently became curious:
If HS2 was built as a new motorway instead, working under the assumption it connected London, Birmingham and Manchester, how much would it roughly cost to have the same capacity as the roughly 100 billion pound estimate to get HS2 from London to Manchester via Birmingham.
