Familiarity help though! I have done a transfer from p8 to p12 in 75seconds before, and made the train.

Personally I find the numbering at Newcastle more bizarre (and I should know it better) and also BNS where I find it just bizarre with a,b,c. And don't get me started on Sheffield and the coloured zone signs (pre refurb)....

Had an interesting one on London Midland recently.

We got on the DC line at Watford and a bloke got on and asked if the train was going to Harrow & Wealdstone. It turned out that he had rushed through the barrier at Euston, seen the all stations train on the monitor for platform 10 and promptly got on the the first stop Leighton Buzzard train on 11 hock:

Curious as to how on earth he had managed this feat, I had a look next time I was there and, sure enough, the monitor was angled to make it easier to see from the barriers but by doing so was turned towards Platform 11. I still don't really know why he thought Platform 10 was Platform 11, but could see how the mistake was made.

Hopefully there will not be any repeats as there are nice new LED monitors facing down the platform now.

lo when i was at silverlink that happened all the time lol, alot of people from the semi's to northampton use to jump straight on to the flyer first stop leighton buzzard, even more so when they swap plat 9+10 trains around (something to do with the ware on the third rail so every few months metro services go from 9 to 10 and county stoppers to tring and mk went to 10)

Also the fact that your probably at Edinburgh station every other week, when the likes of me and Jules are more common with Hereford and Shrewsbury.... :roll::roll:

Quite right! I can find my way around New Street easily, same for Bristol TM. Yet Birmingham New Street is often quoted as a confusing station.

Is this because I can read signs? Well, of course I can read signs, but I am very familiar with the place. Very rarely do I get lost there.

I don't think that the Waverley pre-2008 would be a place that anyone outside of Scotland wouldn't get lost at!

Weston-super-Mare confuses a lot of simple people, even though it only has 2 platforms. Trouble is, services both north and south can arrive and depart from either platform, its kinda random. and the main side of the station is platform 2, not platform 1.

Not helped by the fact that we can get the auto announcer to do Plt 1 & 2!

Passengers should be taught how to use trains as over time they seem to have forgot. They also use stupid phrases.
I like these little gems.
Q "Is this platform crewe" A "No, this is shrewsbury, that train there is for crewe."

Q "If I catch the later train, will it get to birmingham before the all stations one" A "Nope we tend not to overtake"

Q "Can you stop the train at Oakengates for me?" A "F**k off you telford chav"

Q "Why couldnt the driver steer around the obstacle or stop before it?" A " We tend not to steer very often & the brakes are a tad less effective than a F1 car! "

Q "Is this the London Euston train?" [sat at birmingham New street in a 4 car 158 with Arriva Trains Wales down the sides & Aberystwyth in the destination blind] A "No"

[upon arriving at a major station after up to 2 hours of driving] Q " What platform is the train to So & so on?" A " I don't know, I've only just arrived as well!"

[Following vermin stuff on the stourlines] Q "You are late arriving!" A "Yes I tend to stop at those likkle red things on the end of the poles, I find life exciting enough without pushing it too far"

There are loads more I can't think of right now & yes all those are ones that I have had personally.

Back in the dim dark days of when it was Central Trains juuuust after privatisation, I did actually succeed in getting an Aberystwyth bound train to stop at Codsall, or rather my mother did, by cosying up to the traincrew. Wouldn't happen now I don't think!

I suspect the Shrewsbury to New Street all stations is one of the only stoppers booked to leave 15 minutes after the fast train on normal double track that regularly beats the fast train to their destination

Platform 1 at Shrewsbury does exist even if it has no track in these days Believe the PLATFORM itself is still extant, hee hee.
