I have another Delay Repay scenario with unexpected complications...

I was due to depart PRE at 17:41 to travel to GLC on Avanti, arriving 20:01 - but it was delayed.

My strong recollection (because I umm-ed and ahh-ed a bit) is that at 18:00 the National Rail Live app was showing:

• Projected PRE departure time for my delayed train c. 18:15 to arrive GLC just before 20:40
• The TPE 18:03 on schedule at PRE to arrive GLC about 20:40

So I didn't join the TPE service as my delayed original train where I had seat reservation would get me to destination at pretty much the same time.

However the Avanti train was further delayed eventually arriving GLC about 21:15. I made a claim for the 60+ minute delay which I experienced. The claim has been reduced by 50%, presumably because of the belief I did or should have joined the TPE service, which would have been a 40 minute delay. I think my decision at 18:00 to wait for my original train was reasonable as I could not know the Avanti service would pick up further delays.

Is there a data source that would allow me to recreate what I recall the National Rail Live app was showing at 18:00 on the day - namely that the fastest journey to GLC was still to wait for the delayed 17:41 and not join the 18:03?

I can't see where I'd indicate I want to see not final actuals, but shifting projections while the train was on its journey.

Just write and explain what happened and ask them to reconsider your claim. Don't overthink it.

Both Realtime Trains and Open Train Times may be of help to you, for your reference when contacting the TOC.

By selecting the relevant date and station and time, you should be able to see how both trains progressed through their journeys, where and when delays were incurred etc.

I think this is your train

If so, at 18:00 it was already over an hour late and hadn't yet reached Crewe, so it would be very surprising - though not impossible - that the PIS at Preston was suggesting at 18:15 departure

As others have said though, a polite email to customer services will probably get this resolved in your favour
