Hillington Stations question

Should GARL have gone ahead, there would've been a third track constructed between Cardonald and Hillington West. I'm just wondering, now that GARL's gone, is this still happening? I remember reading that NR are still going to be carrying out improvements between Glasgow and Paisley Gilmour Street that once were to be a part of GARL.

Im sure they have started working on laying a third track .i could be wrong.

It's now called something like paisley corridor renewal (PCR), basically involves a third track (bidirectional) between shields junction and arkleston. last year some major works done in places such as installation of new overhead line structures and the new wider bridge over the road at the entrance to hillington estate.

This is still planned to go ahead however as of this afternoon there's no evidence of any track laying yet. I did remember reading or hearing somewhere that track laying / resignalling was due to start this year.

The Glasgow Airport project was made up of three contracts :
Rolling Stock Renewal (still going ahead)
Paisley Corridor Renewal (still going ahead)
GARL (cancelled)

The contract was awarded to Balfour Beatty in May and work is due to commence in October for completion in 2012 (previously 2011)
The majority of the work will be overnight and weekends
There will also be four weeks of complete blockades, between Glasgow and Paisley
Hence why the work does not commence until October

Transport Scotland was concerned about the increase in road traffic as the White Cart Viaduct ( M8 ) upgrade work was also delayed by 1 year
