Highest Mileage on GM Rail Ranger

Just finished a GM Rail Ranger. 208 miles. An enthusiast I met on the 18.05 XC from Man Picc to Bristol said he didn't think it was even possible. I got on the 350's 5 times in all. Has anyone on here ever got a higher mileage than mine? If so how long did it take? It took me 10 hours!

If you travelled between Wigan North Western and Oxford Road as part of your 208 miles it is not obvious to me that your ticket was valid. The map which can be found via www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/pr76259d68a84d788a6a614755683b8f.aspx suggests that the new route is outwith the Greater Manchester Ticketing Boundary though I doubt a sober man would have any problem with a ticket inspector.

For the less sober, another simple, if mindless, approach to exceeding 208 miles would be to travel repeatedly between Piccadilly and Stockport. 35 single trips at 6 miles each (or 37 at the 5.75 suggested by Quail) should be achievable within about 10hrs with the 14tph standard service avoiding long waits.

I have no intention of ever demonstrating the practicality of this!

I travelled between Manchester Oxford Road and Wigan North Western twice(one return). I have previously questioned this and was told it was valid. Plus, my ticket was inspected onboard each time by an RPI.

208 miles on a GM Rail Ranger is easy done! Can't remember my figures off the top of my head but I know I managed a lot with a lot of festering!

I must admit I don't fully know the t&c's surrounding the rail ranger card however within the current timetable I can imagine some versions of cross county train service would make this possible. Looking at sometime like a repeat round trip between Hazel Grove to Wigan or Bolton or any other similar services. Again I am no desire to calculate the mileage or map out the theoretical practicalities on this one.

WGN - MCO via eccles is valid on a standard Wigan - Manchester CTZ ticket (which is at PTE prices) so i can't see why the rail rover isn't valid

I'm expecting 250+ tomorrow by starting off on the first valid train from Heald Green (first valid from East Didsbury doesn't do much for me, and, to be honest, I like the 09:32 off HDG anyway), changing at Salford Crescent to get to Wigan, then shuttling on the 350s until 14:42 (WGN) and then heading back to Manchester, going round on the 15:48 Hadfield looper (and wondering if I'll ever get to do the decent half of it in the daylight), back to Manchester, down to Navi Road, back to Manchester, Stalybridge, break for a few hours, back to Manchester then replacement flaming bus to East Didders.

It's valid I get the gm train card season and I've used it to Wigan North Western many times from MIA that is

I've been using them that way since they began going that way... there's no real doubt that it clearly is valid and nobody is going to charge you more for it anyway.

Speaking of confusing maps, the West Midlands PTE (Centro) network map shows Wythall station as being part of the metropolitan county where in fact it actually lies in the ceremonial county of Worcestershire. This may be due to the fact that both stations either side - Whitlock's End and Earlswood are both within the metropolitan county of the West Midlands, and were part of the ceremonial county of Warwickshire before 1974.
