I've just done a check on the Northern DMUs I need for sight:
  • 142: 11 needed out of 79 (all except one allocated to Newton Heath)
  • 144: non needed
  • 150: 18 out of 73 (all Newton Heath)
  • 153: 3 (Neville Hill)
  • 155: 3 needed out of 7 (Neville Hill)
  • 156: 29 out of 42 (most Allerton, but a few Heaton)
  • 158: non needed
Clearly it's the 150s and 156s that need most attention, although it'd be nice to bring down the number of Pacers too. I presume Manchester Picadilly / Victoria and maybe Liverpool Lime Street are the best places to get these lists down a bit? Is Victoria likely to produce more than Picadilly? I've covered the Sheffield / Leeds / Doncaster area fairly extensively where the hit rate has been rather low recently and at this stage I really don't want to go as far as Jordie-land although I accept some will be up there. Anyone got any other suggestions for a concentrated attack on these units - it's sighting I'm after rather than riding.

Thanks in anticipation,

A

Piccadilly and Victoria are your friends. Lime Street is pointless as all the Northern DMUs from there head back to Manchester anyway.

I also wouldn't pay too much attention to the 156 allocated depots, the Northern Random Unit Generator has them popping up all over the place.

A few hours at Victoria and Piccadilly should see most diagrams starting to repeat.

Thank you again. I've just got to work up the enthusiasm to spend nearly two hours each way sitting in an EMT 158 - when (if) I manage to achieve that I'll do it.
