hi, was wondering if you could help, my ancestor Robert Bugden (stoker) was killed in a railway accident i think 03/01/1853 on the oxford branch of the London and north western railway. i have since joined the railway in Australia and would like to honour my ancestor with a tattoo. i'm after a picture of the locomotive he would've been on at the time. thank you.

On the 3rd of January 1853, repairs were underway on the Wolvercote Tunnel near Oxford on the London and North Western Railway. A coal train collided with a small 3car passenger train killing 7 people. Both train's were yold they could go along the line.

Sorry that's all I can find now. But it was reported by The Times newspaper, they may have records of the accident???

Britain's Railway Disasters: Fatal Accidents from the 1830's to the Present Day By Michael Foley is my source. I can't see picture of loco number anywhere. Sorry.
