The 2.7% figure is presumably based on the assumption that all current passengers would have continued travelling had fares risen? This almost certainly wouldn't have been the case although quantifying the actual effects of fare changes is hard enough in normal times. Covid has made that even harder.

Regarding Crossrail cost over runs. I see this is often now being quoted against the figure of £14.8 billion, this was actually a reduction from an earlier figure of 15.9. The cut was made in 2010 as part of the government's 'austerity' measures and was quite clearly never realistic with the benefit of hindsight. Final cost quoted at £18.9 billion. It's a big number but in percentage terms the cost over run probably isn't that bad compared to some other projects world wide. I suggest reading up about Berlin airport if you want to see what a cost over run can really look like, nearly triple the original budget!

Did you forget to mention the massive crossrail cost overruns?
Are they 'massive' in the context of the whole project? I seem to recall that at one point the overrun had returned the costs back to the original budget before being arbitrarily slashed by the Treasury earlier.

Today, on the Met line, 25 minutes for an Uxbridge service…
There weren’t, before going back down to the Liz line platforms I asked a member of staff who confirmed that I would be waiting whether I stayed at Moorgate or went to Baker Street.
This makes no sense as you would be best getting the first available train towards Baker Street; if no through train from there, then enquire with staff and then the first available towards Harrow on the Hill and change there if required.

I don't see how Crossrail could have had any impact on the problems occuring on the Met.

Not to mention this is going to be infrastructure that will last for many decades even in its current form. We'll all forget about the project overrun in several years.

The Jubilee Line Extension was £1.4bn (£2.2bn in today's money) over budget, almost 2 years late and opened in phases and look how vital that has become.
